The clouds flowed away fast to the south, thinning and breaking up more, and a broad arc spanned the largely clear sky from east to west. It illuminated the landscape everywhere in an eerie light, and when sharp very bright rays started to form in its base high in the northwest, Dave was elated and awed. Already, he could hear their opponent's agony -- a distressful raspy hissing behind him.
